Your Dog's Health and Welfare Comes First

The health, safety and wellbeing of every dog in our care is our highest priority. While we hope every guest enjoys a happy, healthy stay, dogs can occasionally become unwell or sustain an injury, just as they might at home.

Our experienced team carefully monitors every dog throughout their stay and is trained to recognise changes in behaviour, appetite, mobility and general wellbeing. If we have any concerns, we will act promptly and always in your dog’s best interests.

If Your Dog Requires Veterinary Attention

Should your dog become unwell or require veterinary treatment during their stay, we will contact you immediately to discuss the situation and follow your instructions wherever possible.

If we are unable to reach you, or if urgent treatment is required to protect your dog’s health or welfare, we will seek immediate veterinary advice and authorise any treatment considered necessary by the attending veterinary surgeon.

Your dog’s welfare will always come before administrative considerations.

Our Veterinary Practice

We have an excellent relationship with Temple End Veterinary Practice in High Wycombe. Their experienced veterinary team provides us with rapid access to professional advice and emergency treatment whenever required, including urgent out-of-hours care.

This close working relationship means that, should your dog require veterinary attention, they can receive prompt treatment without unnecessary delay.

Veterinary Costs

Veterinary treatment has become significantly more expensive in recent years. Even relatively routine treatment can result in substantial bills.

Examples of current veterinary costs include:
Emergency consultation: £100–£250
Out-of-hours emergency consultation: £250–£400
X-rays and diagnostic imaging: £300–£800
Blood tests and laboratory investigations: £150–£500

Treatment of wounds requiring sedation or anaesthesia: £500–£2,000+
Orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery: £2,000–£6,000+
Overnight hospitalisation and ongoing care: £500–£1,500 per day

These figures are intended as examples only, and actual costs will vary depending on the treatment required and the veterinary practice involved.

We Strongly Recommend Pet Insurance

Pet insurance is not a requirement for boarding at Maccabee’s Pet Hotel, but we strongly recommend that every dog is covered by comprehensive insurance.
Unexpected illness or injury can occur at any time, whether your dog is at home, on a walk or staying with us. Veterinary medicine has advanced enormously in recent years, allowing dogs to receive exceptional levels of care, but this has also led to a significant increase in treatment costs.

Comprehensive pet insurance provides valuable peace of mind and helps ensure that treatment decisions can be made based solely on what is best for your dog, rather than financial considerations.

Responsibility for Veterinary Fees

As set out in our Terms and Conditions, the owner remains solely responsible for all veterinary fees, medications, diagnostic tests, investigations, hospitalisation and any associated costs incurred during their dog’s stay.

Maccabee’s Pet Hotel does not provide veterinary insurance and accepts no liability for veterinary costs, regardless of the circumstances in which treatment becomes necessary.

For this reason, we strongly encourage all owners to maintain appropriate pet insurance cover throughout their dog’s stay.

Responsibility for Veterinary Fees

Please tell us about any existing medical conditions, allergies, medications, mobility issues or behavioural concerns before your dog’s stay.

Providing complete and accurate information enables us to tailor your dog’s care and ensures we can respond appropriately should treatment become necessary.

Health Check on Arrival

Every dog is observed on arrival. If your dog appears unwell, has symptoms of an infectious illness or is otherwise not fit to board, we may be unable to admit them.

While we appreciate this may be disappointing, this policy helps protect both your own dog and the health and welfare of all the other dogs staying with us.

Our Commitment

We sincerely hope your dog never requires veterinary treatment during their stay. However, should the unexpected happen, you can be confident that our experienced team will act promptly, responsibly and always in your dog’s best interests. Our priority will always be to ensure your dog receives the care they need as quickly as possible while keeping you fully informed throughout.
